| A major earthquake – in excess of 8.0 -- is predicted to occur in the Coachella Valley within the next few decades. It may occur at any time: while you are golfing, sleeping, shopping, watching TV or traveling.
Will you be ready?
Earthquake disasters strike quickly and without warning, and can force you to evacuate your home, or confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services were cut off (no electricity, gas, water, phone service and cell phones)?
Local police, fire and relief agencies would certainly attempt to be on the scene but, realistically, one can expect that we would be on our own for some period of time.
We each must be prepared to take care of ourselves and loved ones for an extended period, perhaps 2-4 weeks say most experts.
YOUR ICA BOARD REMINDS YOU THAT EACH RESIDENT IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS/HER OWN DISASTER PREPAREDNESS. YOUR COMMUNITY ASSOCATION OR LOCAL HOA CANNOT PROVIDE EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE.
The attached FEMA and LA Fire Department brochures are provided here as an aid to help you plan for such an emergency. Please read them carefully and develop your own preparedness plan. |
